This is an article where Ghana hosted its version of National Multi-sectoral Meetings on drug policy reform to shape discourse among key stakeholders from relevant public sector institutions that engage in drug policy formulation and implementation. The meeting aimed to raise key national issues pertaining to current drug policies and shape a West Africa position on the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on the World Drug Problem. Key outcomes of the workshop included the identification of clearly-defined progress and limitations under the current drug policy measures; creation of awareness on the need for synergy between government and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) around new strategies to address drug trafficking issues through health-friendly measures; and the development of a framework for a West African position that aligns with the main outlines of the Common African position in anticipation of UNGASS on the World Drug Problem, scheduled for 2016.
