<subfield code="a">Global Witness investigates and campaigns to prevent natural resource related conflict and corruption and associated environmental and human rights abuses. This annual report documents campaigns and activities carried out by Global Witness. In 2006, aid flows to Africa totalled $49 billion while payments for natural resources were an incredible$250 billion and a range of natural resources, including timber, have been used to fund armed conflict and corruption. Through a combination of on the ground investigations and in-depth research, we gather first hand evidence of human rights abuses resulting from the exploitation of natural resources. The work is divided into four thematic areas: conflict resources, corruption, accountability, and protecting global goods.
