The article talks of SADC initiatives put in place to curb the scourge of money laundering. These include Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism which were included in the SADC Protocol on Finance and Investment (FIP) as Annex 12 in August 2011. The inclusion, five years after the FIP was signed, indicates that the SADC FIP is a living document and not cast in stone. However, the implementation of other SADC FIP objectives, such as the SADC Integrated Regional Electronic Settlement System (SIRESS) poses challenges to anti-money laundering measures and necessitates much closer cooperation and coordination between SADC member states..
