Measures on smuggling come at a time the country is losing billions through leakages. Preliminary results of a study conducted by the Zimbabwe Economic Policy Analysis Research Unit showed that the country could have lost about $2,7 billion in illicit financial out flows in mining during the period 2009 to 2012. The leakages are attributed the illicit financial out flows to gaps in the legislative framework governing the sector thereby creating opportunities for corruption. The results showed that there was information asymmetry between the government and investors in the mining sector contributing to tax avoidance through under-reporting of the quantity, quality and composition of minerals. aASSET STRIPPING CAPITAL FLIGHT CAPITAL OUTFLOW CORRUPTION COUNTERFEITING GOOD GOVERNANCE ILLICIT WEALTH MONEY LAUNDERING NATURAL RESOURCES SMUGGLING TRANSFER PRICING TRANSPARENCY uhttp://iffoadatabase.trustafrica.org/iff/govt_moves_in_on_smuggling.pdf cNA c318d318
