Summary, etc This is a project description of the GIFF project that focuses on artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) which accounts for approximately 20% of world supply, hence it is an important livelihood for tens of millions of people. With much of this production informal and unregulated, the ASGM sector is vulnerable to criminal infiltration and illicit financial flows (IFFs), which can include the illicit pre-financing of mining operations and gold smuggling across international borders. However, efforts to formalize ASGM to date have paid little attention to IFFs and the ways they inhibit creation of more equitable and sustainable modes of ASGM production and trade. The poject aims to raise awareness and understanding of IFFs and criminal networks in gold supply chains;
