Summary, etc This report notes that over the last decade, security and governance has improved in many countries across Africa. Not only has the overall number of armed conflicts and coup d’états declined, armed forces have professionalised in places like Ghana and Zambia, and democratic institutions are growing in capacity in states such as Liberia and Tunisia. At the same time, economic growth rates are averaging 4.5%, life expectancy across the continent has increased by about 10% over the past decade, and the African Union (AU) is assuming a more robust peacekeeping role.
