This paper, in a series of illicit financial flows (IFFs) research studies commissioned by TrustAfrica, provides an insight into the shadows of illicit flows in the Nigerian oil industry and investigate their dynamics and channels. The paper reveals the major actors involved in the IFFs, highlighting the gaps and challenges within the oil governance regime as well as provide mechanisms to respond to the flows. The analysis also takes into consideration of the concept of IFFs and how Nigeria’s background and current conditions relate to it.
